Colin Kaepernick’s has for now ended his national anthem protest where he knelt. We are less concerned nor particularly aware of why he’s decided to end it, but we’re so proud as to the reasons he started it!
Racism. Discrimination. Police brutality. Economic inequality.
His refusal to stand for the national anthem, was as American as apple pie, and a clear example of standing up! So whether he kneels or stands he still stands, and for that we applaud him! His protest quickly spread across the NFL, and he without question got the entire country talking and possible even the world! We know that communication is the first step in healing and our great nation desperately needs it.
He embodied the strength of legends before him (Muhammad Ali etc.) He emboldened other athletes to act on their beliefs, whether it was in the form of protest or engagement with fans and their communities. He donated money — over $1,000,000 as of March — to small, locally-based organizations trying to make a difference where it’s needed most.
He recognized that his status as a marquee player in our most popular sport gave him a unique platform, and he fearlessly used it to try to make our country better! We clap for em!
