Heartbreaking, to say the least, is what these police crimes have been. Between Jacob Blake and Breonna Taylor and the hundreds and thousands of others, this treatment is not right. Why is it that the police aren’t treated as criminals when they are indeed just that. Why does a blue uniform save them every time? Why do they get a pass when they were blatantly wrong.
Just last Sunday Jacob Blake, 29, was shot 7 times in the back in front of his kids (ranging from 8-3 years of age). The kids were just babies. They were less than a few feet away while watching the police mistreat their loving father.
Why didn’t the police care? Why are the black men always the bad guys? Why are the blue uniforms always the good guys? After being shot, after a flight for life, after surgery, after the doctors say he is paralyzed, why was he still handcuffed to the hospital bed?
Breonna Taylor, 26, was sleeping in her own house when police officers entered, striking her 8 times with bullets. Why is it so hard to declare justice? Why don’t the police have any remorse for the wrong they’ve done?
This is not okay. It hurts. It saddens. But it also angers. The continual senseless police violence burns on the inside of us. It makes us shed tears. It frightens the youth.
Young black kids shouldn’t grow up crying, scared, and upset about how the police might treat them. They should be able to trust the police. They should be able to feel like the police are good guys.
But it seems like a matter of wishful thinking instead. Will we ever see a day where cops are held responsible to the crimes they commit against blacks? Will we ever see justice? Will we ever have peace? Will we ever be treated like humans?
We want justice. We want change.
