Today most of us are celebrating Labor Day, however some professions are not able to take a day off, like medical providers, firefighters, and emergency help services like the 911 call centers. I hope these workers at least receive the holiday pay for today because they deserve it.
Labor Day is a federal holiday to recognize the many contributions workers have made to America’s strength, prosperity, and well-being. So, I thought about a few ways we should use the same blueprint for living a balanced life. Life cannot be all work and no play, no reward, for years and years to come, so here are a few ways to avoid this way of living.
Work to your best ability and take pride in what you do, give it your all and appreciate your job. While working, make sure you are dedicated to the tasks, and you stayfocused on fulfilling the job requirements. Having a job you are proud of and good at will be the motivation you need to do your best work and feel great at the end of the day.
On your day of rest! Yes, rest. If you do not rest on your day off, the next workday will seem like a drag and you will not do your best work. Days off are the best days to get a good night’s sleep and take care of yourself. You need to replenish so your creativity can flow, and your body needs to be replenished as well for proper movement and blood flow.
Enjoy your weekends! This is the time to see a movie, enjoy a good dinner out or spend time with your family. Let us get back to doing things on the weekends, because it is a reward for working all week. The weekend is the time to shop, have fun and get up and go out to see the city. Most people use this concept, and they are much happier than the average worker, because they know life is short and to enjoy life you must balance things out.
Take a week off at least once a year and go on a vacation from home. Some of your vacation time will be used to stay home and get things done, however, once a year go on vacation to a resort, to see family abroad, or to a place you have never been. If you have never left your city and stayed at a hotel, you are missing out. The company gives you this time to enjoy your life, because they know you need it and guess what? Your boss, CEO and the owners are taking vacations, you are the only one working day in and day out and not enjoying your life.
So, I challenge you to rethink your work life balance and take some time to reboot, relax and reward yourself for your hard work. Trust me, you will thank me later!
