Oh, the joys of working—waking up everyday knowing your job has to get done. The long hours put you to sleep at night. If you complete all your tasks as expected, maybe you get an internal boost because you feel good about the task at hand.
But let’s be honest, most times when Mondays come, we’re ready for Friday. Then there’s those that are working for a goal that they plan to hit by applying pressure. This is where the long hours, late nights, and weekends become the norm.
But what if I told you, this is not always a good thing. It’s not good to work work work until you burn out. It is better to listen to your body. Training your body to be up longer or to work a little harder than others is one thing but to consistently overwork your mind and body comes with a consequence.
Labor Day is a public holiday or day of festivities held in honor of working people, in the US and Canada on the first Monday in September, in many other countries on May 1. On this day we are reminded to rest. You actually deserve to sit down sometimes. I mean honestly it’s mandatory at times.
Our bodies are flesh and because of that we have to treat it a certain way. Some of the most serious potential problems associated with chronic sleep deprivation are high blood pressure, diabetes, heart attack, heart failure or stroke. Other potential problems include obesity, depression, reduced immune system function and lower sex drive.
While some of these effects may sound easy to deal with, they’re not. Whether you believe it or not, it’s been proven time and time again that you function better, when you’ve had rest. Think about it, even God Himself rested the day after he completed the whole wide world and everything in it. We most certainly can’t outwork him.
So think about it. Have you been getting the proper rest you need? Please consider because it can truly hurt you in the long run.
Happy Labor Day!
