I recently went on my first vacation of the year and like always there was not enough time. I went to Memphis, Tennessee and It felt good to go back to a place where I once called home and it also felt good to see my friends and get a taste of some early spring weather.
Memphis is a wonderful place to visit because there is so much history there and legends of all backgrounds were either born there or at some point have lived there. During my stay I went to visit the FedEx Forum where my friend Shayla and I danced the night away at the New Edition: The Culture Tour featuring Jodeci and Charlie Wilson. The FedEx forum is also the home of the NBA team The Memphis Grizzlies.
History has played a significant role in Memphis and The Lorraine Hotel where Dr. Martin Luther King was assassinated while standing on the balcony, is located there. The hotel is also next to The National Civil Rights Museum where many come from all over the world to see. Although this was a tragic event, Dr. King’s legacy continues to live on, so make sure to visit this landmark while there.
This is not a suggestion, it is a command, when you get to Memphis, do not leave without going downtown to the famous Beale Street. The music alone is worth the trip, if you like live music and hearing selections from blues to funk to everything in-between then you will love Beale Street. You can walk, talk, dance and eat southern classics for blocks and blocks, please do not fight me on this, lol, just go!
If you do not know by now, I will tell you, I am a foodie, lol and Memphis has a few spots that I dream about constantly, like Jerry’s Snow Cones. I love their snow cone supreme which is half slush and half ice cream, yes, I know, and it is good! I also recommend Corky’s BBQ for the best ribs and fries on the planet. Another favorite spot is Gibson’s Donuts, they have the best glazed donuts, they are soft as pillows and super sweet. Want a good homemade burger? Dixie Queen is the spot they are known for their delicious banana splits, burgers, and wings.
Memphis is a beautiful place to go on vacation by yourself or with the whole family and there is so much more to see and do than what I listed here, but this is enough to get you started, so start now by planning a trip to Memphis, Tennessee, and I am sure you will not be disappointed.
Happy Travels,
