Toys “R” Us, Inc. which is based in Wayne, N. J., announced on Tuesday that it will hire approximately 45,000 seasonal workers, which is an increase from the 40,000 the retailer hired last year.
Toys “R” Us is adding more seasonal jobs to fulfill orders expected to result from the company’s enhanced “omnichannel” offerings. This enables customers to purchase toys online and pick them up at the nearest store.
Toys “R” Us officials note that seasonal jobs can lead to full-time employment. The retailer is the leading dedicated toy and juvenile-products retailer. The company employs approximately 70,000, and it operates 876 Toys “R” Us and Babies “R” Us stores in the United States and Puerto Rico.

Walmart U.S., which is part of Walmart Stores Inc., the world’s largest retail-store chain, announced that will hire 50,000 seasonal sales associates during the holidays. Walmart Stores Inc. operates 8,500 stores in 15 countries.

“This is our busiest time of the year, and we are focused even more on providing excellent service to our shoppers throughout the holiday season,” said Gisel Ruiz, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Walmart U.S. “One way we do that is by ensuring our stores are adequately staffed by our associates.”
Walmart Stores U.S. is Walmart Stores Inc.’s largest division, accounting for $258 billion, or 63.8 percent of total sales in 2010.
