One Million Strong Milwaukee Community Health Fair

MILWAUKEE, April 18, 2016 – Together, Milwaukee Health Services, Inc. (MHSI) and Fight Colorectal Cancer will host One Million Strong Milwaukee Community Health Fair on Saturday, April 23, 2016from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM at Isaac Coggs Heritage Health Center located at 8200 West Silver Spring Drive.

“The primary objective of the event is to increase awareness of various health topics and empower our community to take action through the utilization of preventative screenings for health and wellness,” said Pamela Clark, Corporate Communications Specialist for Milwaukee Health Services, Inc.

Colorectal cancer is a preventable cancer, however nearly one-third of the U.S. population is not up-to-date with screenings and colorectal cancer remains the second-leading cause of cancer deaths in men and women combined. By finding and removing precancerous polyps (adenomas) that can develop into cancer, colorectal cancer can be stopped before it ever starts. In addition, screening for colon cancer can detect it early when it is most curable.

Attendees will have the opportunity to receive colon, mammogram, dental, HIV/Hepatitis C and other health screenings and obtain information on preventative care from medical and research experts. As part of the event, live entertainment, games, prizes and healthy food will be provided.  This years’ special guest speaker, colorectal cancer survivor Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch will share the story of her cancer journey.
