Over 34 years of service to the great people of Wisconsin
The Milwaukee Community Journal is a quality news organization published throughout Milwaukee and the surrounding suburbs. Established in 1976, the Milwaukee Community Journal (MCJ) has advanced and reported the plight, struggles and victories of blacks in Wisconsin. It’s a service that publisher Patricia Pattillo has taken personally. Patricia was the first female president of the National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA – 1987) Her administration established the Black Press Week in Washington DC; linking all of the fellow papers via fax (prior to the internet).
She had the most aggressive national advertising committee to date, bringing millions of dollars to member papers. They also began regionalizing the association so that each of the four regions would be strengthened sharing regional concerns and regional advertising. Her administration began the formative talks of an NNPA foundation which became a profit generating arm of the association. Pattillo was the first to introduce home delivery as a way of increasing readership and marketing/advertising sales. Bulk delivery and bulk distribution were first introduced to NNPA by the MCJ. Her passion has always been reaching loyal consumers where they are (their homes, favorite shopping venues, their churches and now even on-line).
The awards for MCJ have been far-reaching, they include NNPA awards for photojournalism; best editorial; best marketing plans; best special edition, best woman’s column. Patricia’s insistence on excellence has made MCJ the largest African-American Newspaper in the state of Wisconsin.
