The fight against air pollution has just gone green – broccoli green! Drinking one cup a day of broccoli-sprout tea can help your body get rid of toxic carcinogens, like benzene, according to a new study from Johns Hopkins.
The small, 12-week clinical trial published in Cancer Prevention Research found that the super veggie increased the body’s ability to excrete the harmful pollutants we regularly breathe 61 percent!
Broccoli sprouts are broccoli plants that are harvested when the sprouts are approximately five days old.
Broccoli seeds and stems contain high levels of the molecule glucoraphanin. Glucoraphanin breaks down into a compound called sulforaphane when crushed or chewed, and sulforaphane has been shown to help prevent cancer.
Not only will a cup a day good for your breath, it’s also good for your health. Broccoli is a powerful source of vitamins K and C, fiber and other nutrients your body needs.
If you’re not a tea person, try adding broccoli sprouts to your favorite smoothies to get the antioxidant benefits!
