Let me start off by saying working out is a task within itself. Sometimes we feel like a failure simply because we can’t stay consistent. We find ourselves doing all the things to get ready for the gym, but somehow we never get there. One week we get there, but the next week we find ourselves slacking.
As frustrating as this is, there’s one special technique that can solve this issue. Find a workout partner. Now, we’re not just talking about any workout partner. You need a serious one. One that is committed. But remember you need to be just as committed.
Workout partners make the gym a little more easy. They motivate you to get there. They’re good for many reasons.
SPOT BUDDY
Your workout partner is great for spotting. Having someone else around when you’re lifting heavy weights also makes your workout a lot safer and keeps you both injury free. You look out for each other. Not only that, gym buddies help each other to perfect their form by pointing out the times their partner needs to straighten their back more or bend their knees that little bit extra.
REDUCES DISTRACTIONS
When you’re training, you can alternate your exercises so that your friend finishes their set during your rest period and vice versa. This eliminates any distractions in between sets like scrolling through your phone on social media, something many of us are guilty of!
ROUTINE
When you have a workout buddy, you can decide on a routine that works for both of you. You may start on the treadmill most days or start with the stairs. You might break up and do a few workouts separately but later come back together. Whatever it is you can make it a habit at the gym.
STAY MOTIVATED
Sometimes, all we need is a little bit of push to help us get that last rep out, run that bit faster, go the extra mile, or hang in there for another minute, all for the kudos that your workout partner’s “well done”, high-five or pat on the back brings with it. Having a workout partner can help inspire you to keep going and get even better. Encouraging each other can go a long way. It keeps that energy you need going.
FRIENDLY COMPETITION
With a gym buddy, you can create friendly competition that pushes both of you to keep going. You might challenge each other’s strength or speed. You might make fun bets about eating challenges. Your gym buddy is your accountability partner. They really have the power to hold you accountable in making better health decisions.
YOU’LL HAVE MORE FUN
Of course exercising is very personal, but when done with a partner, it gets to be fun. You get to bond with a person who has the common goal of staying fit and being healthy. But, you also get to have fun. Whether it’s how you celebrate or how you workout, two is more fun than one.
While there’s lots of reasons to find a gym buddy, these are just a few. Finding someone who is committed to staying in the gym with you is literally life changing. They truly can keep you going and bring the best out of you.
The health journey is a powerful journey. It’s not easy. Many times attacking fitness goal alone can be discouraging. So if you’ve been trying and finding yourself failing, try something new. Find a serious gym partner and knock out those goals.
