Afro Fest, our celebration of African culture, has become a tradition in the city since its inception. What started off as a city wide celebration at the Summer Fest grounds, saw a relocation in the previous years. However, this year the event was cancelled all together due to Covid 19. A group of teenage friends, Boss Friends to be exact decided to throw an Afro Fest event of their own.
It was called the “Afro Fest Sit In” which took place at Johnson’s Park Sunday Afternoon. J’Chelle Heard the founder of Boss Friends Mke, put on the event as a way to showcase young entrepreneurs, and show appreciation to the culture with free food, music and vendors. The event Garnered supper from State Representatives, Community activist and more. The day represented what the group stands for, the promotion and uplifting of entrepreneurs. A beautiful collaborative effort between the Peoples Movement, which is the group of activist leading protest around the city. I enjoyed seeing youth take on leadership roles , well done to all who was involved.
