Frank Nitty, a Milwaukee activist, and a group of protesters and leaders from Milwaukee walked to Washington, D.C. on foot in hopes to make a change. After the horrific events for police brutality and white on black crime, without justice, Nitti and a few others made the decision to walk for 25 days to get to the White House.
Friday, Aug. 28, was the 57th anniversary of the 1963 Civil Rights march when Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his historic “I Have a Dream” speech. But on this day, in 2020, Nitti has something to say.
“We need to get organized. Every three months when a Black person gets killed that shouldn’t be the only time we find out about Black people killed by the police. We need to get organized together, as a nation of activists, to call on each other whenever we need help,” Frank says.
The crowd reacted in an amazing way, cheering him on and agreeing with every word he had to say. He spoke of excellence and unity. He invited activists around the country to connect with him. He pushed and continues to push for change.
Frank Nitti is passionate about the change that is necessary to create a better America for blacks.
“We gon’ organize; cause they don’t expect that. We gon’ come together; cause they don’t expect that. We gon’ demand change; cause they don’t expect that.” He says.
Nitti continues, “We shouldn’t be marching for the same stuff Martin Luther King and them were marching for. This is it. I AM TIRED! And I’m tired of asking for justice. I just want it to STOP! We don’t want justice. That’s after a racist police do something to us. We need them out of the police.”
“We just want change and we can get that by voting,” Frank says.
He goes on to talk about how along his journey of walking to DC he and his people we arrested, harassed, and even shot at but that didn’t stop them. They were determined to make it and they did just that.
My heart goes out to Frank Nitti. He has truly made a statement we will never forget.
