October 1, 2013 (New York, NY) GlobalGrind.com the online destination founded by legendary entrepreneur Russell Simmons, has launched a funding campaign for an anti-violence group impacted by a funding shortage. The $100,000 crowd-sourcing campaign will benefit the leading gun violence non-profit LIFE Camp, Inc., in Queens, NY. The campaign will launch on CrowdTilt.com, under the leadership of Michael Skolnik, President of GlobalGrind.com and Political Director to Russell Simmons.
According to many activists, obtaining funding is increasingly hard in this economy, and the process is lengthy with actual cash money not reaching organizations until after the scheduled contract time, leaving CBO’s to seek other avenues of funding in order to keep their doors open and the lights on. This type of bureaucracy leaves most small, community-based organizations out of the city-funding loop or at risk of shutting down and unable to front the cash while enduring the city’s bureaucratic process.
Erica Ford, Executive Director of LIFE Camp, funded under New York City Council’s Anti-Gun Violence Initiative said: “A young man was shot in the head just around the corner from our office on Wednesday. Our doors need to be open in order to serve the families in our community. Our youth have guns and think they need to carry and shoot them to be safe. We have services to connect them to, but no funding to ensure that those connections get made. All we have are promises that the funding is on its way.”
GlobalGrind.com has been one of the leaders of the conversation on gun violence in America and brought visibility to gun shootings across the country. The online destination has also been a hub for national conversations about the death of Trayvon Martin and the subsequent trial of George Zimmerman, the Boston Marathon bombings, the rise of violence in Chicago, America’s relationship with race and the Obama presidency, amongst many other topics.Michael Skolnik, President of GlobalGrind.com said: “We are humbled to be of service to one of the most important youth programs in New York City. It is our responsibility to do whatever we can to stop another mother and father from burying their child. We hope to inspire the members of our GlobalGrind community to join us in this campaign.”
The campaign will run for 30 days.
