Shalamar lead singer and solo artist to perform at Milwaukee Urban League annual fundraiser
Milwaukee, WI (October 4, 2021) – Howard Hewett, the artist known for 1980’s hits including “Second Time Around”, “Make That Move”, and “Amen”, will be the featured musical entertainment at Milwaukee Urban League’s 36th Annual Black and White Ball, Working Together, We are Hope in Action. The ball will take place on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at the Wisconsin Center, 400 West Wisconsin Avenue, Milwaukee, WI 53203. The event, which is generously sponsored by Rockwell Automation, is a hybrid event with a limited number of in-person tickets and a live stream available for those who wish to participate from the comfort of their own homes. Hall. “We are pleased to welcome Howard Hewett, a Grammy Award-winning R&B star, to Milwaukee and the Black and White Ball. His appearance will provide financial support for MUL’s employment, education, and advocacy programs that help thousands each year as we empower communities and change lives.”
Hewett rose to fame as the lead vocalist for of the Grammy-winning vocal group Shalamar. Under Hewett’s smooth and distinctive vocals, the trio recorded a string of hits. Hewett was the group’s lead singer from 1979 to 1985. Hewett then pursued a successful solo career, recording several albums including a gospel album and a Christmas album. His solo career also produced several R&B hits including, “I’m for Real,” “Stay,” “Strange Relationship,” “Show Me,” and “If I Could Only Have That Day Back”.
Hewett has recorded with Earth, Wind and Fire, Stevie Wonder, Teena Marie, and jazz legend George Duke.
