It is Football season and the best way to enjoy the game is to have a party and you cannot have a party without food. Nobody’s favorite team will win every game, but you can have a winning game day menu. To feed a large hungry crowd quickly, cooking a large pot of anything is a great idea. Since chili never disappoints, I am going to share with you my famous chili recipe.
The best thing about chili is you can make it a day or two in advance and you can make it in a crock pot or on the stove and it will taste the same and even better the longer it sits. Also, while shopping buy a few football themed bowls, platters, and decorations to serve the chili, the add-ins and other food items you might be serving.
Let us get this party started with the recipe:
Nikki’s Game Day Chili
3 pounds of ground beef
1 medium yellow onion
1 tablespoon minced garlic
2 cans dark kidney beans (drained)
2 packs of chili seasoning
2 – 14oz cans diced tomatoes (don’t drain)
2 – 28oz cans of tomato sauce (or a can and a half for thicker chili)
1 tsp chili powder
1 tablespoon white sugar
1 tsp red wine vinegar
Salt (to taste)
Pepper (to taste)
Onion powder (to taste)
Brown ground beef and onion, then add in garlic and all other ingredients. mix well and bring to a boil, then simmer for 45 minutes. Keep warm until served.
Serving suggestions: 1. Bake a box of Jiffy mix according to directions on the box, cool and cut into squares and serve with chili. 2. for chili dogs roast a pan of beef hotdogs on a cookie sheet at 400 degrees for 20 minutes and top with chili, shredded cheese, and sour cream. 3. When serving chili in a bowl top with shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, chopped green onions and serve with chili cheese Fritos.
