When I grew up there were so many wonderful shows on television this time of the year. Such as Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Jack Frost, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and my all-time favorite A Charlie Brown Christmas. In the film Charlie Brown is depressed during the Christmas season, because he felt it was commercialized, and all his friends seem selfish and only focus on what they want for Christmas, which makes him angry also. Charlie Brown is also trying to find out the real meaning of Christmas and no one seems to know. During his despair he gets angry and yells out his famous line “Isn’t there anyone who knows what Christmas is all about” and Linus begins to explain it to him. So, I will explain to you the beautiful story of what Christmas is all about.
There was a decree sent out for all the world to be taxed and the taxpayer had to go to their own City, so Joseph and his very pregnant wife Mary, went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem. While they were there, she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in the manger: because there was no room for them in the inn.
There in the same country were shepherds watching their flock when the angel of the Lord appeared, and they were afraid. The angel told them to fear not, for unto to this day a child is born, which is Christ the Lord. The angel continued; you will find the child wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in the manger.
In a hurry the shepherds went to Bethlehem and found Mary, Joseph and the baby lying in the manger. Excited, they went back home to tell everyone what they had seen and what the angel of the Lord had told them about the child. All who heard the shepherd’s story were astonished, and 8 days later the child was named Jesus, the name given to him by the angel even before he was conceived.
Everyone came to see the child and to tell his parents what was to come of the child. After his parents had fulfilled their requirements of the law and returned home to Nazareth in Galilee, there the child grew up healthy and strong and was filled with wisdom and God’s favor was on him. This is the story of Christmas and the answer to Charlie Brown’s question “Isn’t there anyone who knows what Christmas is all about.” Yes, I know this beautiful story and now so do you.
Have a Merry Christmas,
