Nearly 3,000 additional appointments for this age group are slated through this weekend.
May 14, 2021 – Advocate Aurora Health vaccinated 1,276 adolescents ages 12 to 17 against COVID-19 Thursday. The vaccinations were distributed the day after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s formal recommendation to extend vaccine use to younger adolescents Wednesday evening.
Another 2,955 appointments for 12- to 17-year-olds are slated through Sunday, May 16, with more being scheduled all the time.
The new vaccination recommendation marks another milestone in the battle against COVID-19, smoothing the path to school re-openings and helping pandemic-fatigued families regain a sense of normalcy.
“We’re thrilled so many young people and their families took this important step so quickly,” said Dr. Robert Citronberg, executive medical director of infectious disease and prevention at Advocate Aurora Health. “By getting vaccinated, adolescents are protecting themselves, their loved ones and their communities—and paving the way for a great summer and a return to in-person schooling.”
Parents and young people are encouraged to visit aah.org/vaccine or call 866-443-2584 to schedule their shots. Same-day appointments are available, and individuals do not need to be an existing patient to get vaccinated at an Advocate Aurora Health site.
