Early morning Monday, September 13th, a 16-year-old Milwaukee boy was killed at the intersection of Sherman and Burleigh St., according to a Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office report. Later that day, as family and friends gathered for the visual, another shooting occurred. 5 people reported stable after being shot.
There were two 15-year-old girls, a 64-year-old man, a 30-year-old man and a 35-year-old man from Milwaukee. They all suffered nonfatal injuries and were treated at local hospitals, according to police.
Police said the circumstances leading up to the shooting were still under investigation and unknown suspects were sought.
When I hear these stories of trauma, my heart cries out for my community. Will we ever get to a place where we can comfort the kids in pain from all the things they go through? Does it matter that the youth in our city keep killing themselves? Who’s job is it to care? What are we going to do?
