It’s time for kids to return back to school as early as next Monday! But wait! There’s a few things to consider when prepping.
Preparing for a new school year doesn’t always sound fun but it’s very necessary to start your child off the right way. Summer is almost over and the bells are soon to ring.
But what does this mean for parents? It means a shift is taking place. It’s important to be intentional about your child’s new school year and there’s lot to discuss and put into place.
Set Boundaries.
Parent should be very intentional about the roles that are to be played during the school year such as morning routines and duties as well as after school. Students should know the dos and don’ts. Make it clear.
Communicate with teachers.
Know your child’s teacher and frequently communicate to understand how well your child is doing and what they may need to improve on. This helps to identify behaviors that may need correction, before it gets too far.
Get your child organized.
Organization is a key life skill necessary in any student’s lifestyle. Use calendars and planners so the student can keep up with their work and commitments.
Settle into routines.
Have a strong and effective routine, whether morning or night. Create habits that produce a healthy mindset and a clear headspace throughout the school year.
Ease anxiety about an unusual school year.
School can be intimidating and even frustrating for anyone. For the kids, reassure them that they will have a positive and productive time at school this year. Teach them to ask questions and get all the help they need to be successful, whether with a study buddy or a tutor.
Schedule family time
Don’t forget to have fun and set time aside to enjoy one another. Go to parks and playgrounds together. Set up family dates and even getaways. Find fun things to do that everyone will enjoy.
Make sure that your child is ready for all the obstacles that come with learning. Emphasize the importance of their education and let them know you’ll be there every step of the way. Show them that they’re not alone. Help them to stay focused and pay attention enough to know when they’re not.
This year will be a good year. This year will sure be a success.
