Hello, my name is Joshua Jackson and there is one month in February that African Americans celebrate called Black History Month. Black History month is the month that famous black people get recognized for their accomplishments. In corporate America today black people haven’t gotten paid as much as whites which is why crime rates have gotten higher and people steal and kill to help keep their families from starving.
I learned that most black people are probably charged for something they didn’t do and get years in prison and for something a white person did could be way worse and they get less time. It’s scary being black and have learned that there are some whte people who may act nice to your face and then act nasty afterwards. It’s what my mom calls nicenasty. The truth is people don’t always want to be your friend and might use you. As black people we make history everyday and it is really important to bring up what happened.
I believe most white people hate black history month because they are reminded of the things they did wrong and don’t want to take accountability for their actions. At school they let some of the black people go first in the lunch line which I thought was pretty cool. I feel like my generation doesn’t care about race that much, but I believe their parents teach them to be this way. I feel like down the line eventually we will see past races.
The only problem is black people constantly get reminded of the color of their skin. Even though white girls and white boys can shake hands with little black boys and black girls doesn’t mean that racism is gone. When I was younger I believed the church was racist because every picture I saw of Jesus was white and in my young mind I questioned why Jesus had to be white. Another stereotype I hated was the fact that Santa was always white because younger me thought Santa wasn’t a color and that he was a cool guy that gave out presents on Christmas.
Hopefully one day blacks and whites can see past color and be one peaceful nation and be treated with the same equal rights as white people and be treated with the same respect. Well whoever reads this be who you are and be comfortable and proud in your own skin because you are amazing no matter what you look like because God made you beautiful.
