What do the holidays look like in the Black Community? In 2019 729 billion dollars (about $2,200 per person in the US) were spent during the holidays*. How much of this went to the Black community? In 2020 we entered the year with high hopes and expectations and that came to a screeching halt due to the pandemic. However, in 2021 we entered the year with increases in minimum wages going up to an average of $15.00 per hour from a shameful low of about $7.00. So, there is some light at the end of the tunnel.
Fall is upon us and so is the holiday season and we want to make sure our community gets its fair share. This holiday season let us put our money where our hearts are and support the Black community by shopping locally. In doing this, we will be giving black businesses the opportunity to have stability in business endeavors and to be able to share their history and passions with consumers.
