press statement from office of Cavalier Johnson
Milwaukee police say they have found the body of 3-year-old Major Harris Thursday in an alley near 35thStreet and Rohr Avenue.
An autopsy is slated for Friday, Oct. 22, according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office.
Police said Major was found in a container near garbage cans bud did not release additional details. Acting Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman said the investigation is ongoing. “My heart and condolences go to the family,” Norman said.
The body was found five days after an initial Amber Alert was issued for Major. His mother, Mallery Muenzenberger, was found dead a week ago near 37th and Clarke streets. In the past 24 hours, six arrests had been made in her death. All but two people, 21-year-old and 29-year-old man, have been released from custody.
A person of interest in Muenzenberger death and Major’s disappearence , Jaheem Clark, was found dead of an apparent self-inflected gunshot wound.
“I share in the sadness people throughout Milwaukee feel with the death of Major Harris,” said Mayor Tom Barrett. “I offer condolences to his family. Thank you to the police, other city officials and citizens who have worked to find Major. Our prayers for justice and peace continue.”
In a statement of his own, Milwaukee Common Council President Cavalier Johnson issued a statement. “No family and no community should go through such terrible trauma and heartbreak. As a community we must continue to show our support for the loved ones affected by this entire senseless tragedy.
“I’ve had a pit in my stomach and my heart has been heavy since Major was taken. It is a feeling that no parent, no grandparent, no member of our community should feel—especially as it relates to the safety of our children.
“Let me be clear: We should not be burying children because of violence. Period.”
