Indaba Band Shell announces special free pre-Father’s Day event for Wednesday
Get a jump on honoring fathers! The Indaba Nights weekly summer entertainment series will present a major pre-Father’s Day celebration Wednesday, June 15, featuring free African drumming and dance lessons from Ko-Thi Dance Company, an exciting performance by Ton Ko-Thi Children’s Performance Ensemble, giveaways and more. The lessons begin at 6:30 p.m., with the Ton Ko-Thi performance starting at 7:30. People can bring a blanket or lawn chairs to enjoy a picnic, brought from home or purchased from food vendors on site. The band shell is located on the grounds of St. Ann Center’s Bucyrus Campus, 2450 W. North Ave.; free parking is available in the fenced lots.
“Ton Ko-Thi performing for St. Ann Center’s Indaba Summer Entertainment Series is a great opportunity to highlight our amazing youth ensemble while expanding our reach into the city of Milwaukee through the performing arts,” said DeMar Walker, Ko-Thi artistic director. “We are excited for the community to join us for a spirited time of drum and dance at the Indaba Band Shell.”
Gloria Miller, St. Ann Center special events director, said the Indaba is especially pleased to bring Ton Ko-Thi the Wednesday before Father’s Day.
“It’s going to be a fun celebration for families, and we hope everyone comes along to spend a lovely summer night with us, especially with all the extras our partners are helping provide,” she said, noting that the 101.7 FM The Truth radio station street team will be present to distribute promotional items and giveaways, and the CW18/My 24 van will visit (beginning at 6:15 p.m.) to distribute a limited number of free Summerfest tickets (first come, first serve). She encouraged families to bring a blanket or lawn chairs.
The evening’s entertainment is sponsored by All of Us Research Program, which will have representatives on hand to share information about the precision medicine program.
Various partnerships and donations make it possible for St. Ann Center, a nonprofit organization, to offer this free family-friendly summer entertainment series as a means to promote community in the neighborhood.
