Dealing with friends that hurt you

April 4, 2023 By MKE Community Journal Leave a Comment

By Joshua Jackson

Sometimes no matter how close you are to someone, your friend may say or do something hurtful. One way to deal with these types of friends is to not take everything they say so seriously but to call them out when they are in the wrong. It is also good to control your feelings and the way you react to things especially when you are mad, angry or upset and may not be easy to do.

It is likely for those friends to stop messing with you if you don’t give them a reaction to some of the things they may say. Sometimes it’s best to have a hurtful comeback if they are the type of person to walk all over you and keep hurting you. It’s important to know that there are many types of bullying: verbal, physical,or online bullying.  It’s best to know whether you are actually getting bullied or not and should tell someone whether what’s happening is considered bullying.

A second way to deal with friends that may be intentionally or unintentionally hurting is to walk away from the situation even if it is temporarily. I have done this many times before and would ask the teacher if I could use the bathroom and would take a few minutes so I could take a deep breath and keep calm. Sometimes I will be minding my own business and they would try to annoy me or say something upsetting or rude and couldn’t focus on my own homework. Sometimes I just had to ignore them but other times they would say something hurtful and would make me mad and I would take deep breaths.

Sometimes your friends are going to hurt you but it’s important to know whether they are really your friends or not. And it’s best to address how you felt and talk to them privately about how what they said hurt you.Try telling them your perspective about how you feel and if someone did that to them they would take offense and would feel hurt by it. It is important that most people who make fun of people feel bad or insecure about themselves.

Well,I hope you enjoyed stay positive and most of all stay safe.
