COUNTY EXECUTIVE DAVID CROWLEY AND NORTHWESTERN MUTUAL FOUNDATION TO BE HONORED
On Wednesday, May 1 at 8 a.m. ,“National Skilled Trades Day,” Ezekiel Community Development Corporation (“Ezekiel HOPE”) will host its first annual breakfast event at The Trade Hotel, 420 W. Juneau Avenue. During the event, County Executive David Crowley and Northwest Mutual Foundation will receive “Community Builder” and “Corporate Builder” awards, respectively, for their support of and commitment to advocating for affordable housing and stabilizing neighborhoods.
Ezekiel HOPE is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization that has a three-prong goal of promoting homeownership, partnering with minority contractors to build capacity, and providing employment opportunities to unemployed and underemployed individuals by training them in the skilled trades.
“County Executive David Crowley has been a staunch advocate for affordable housing and securing funding to facilitate it. Northwestern Mutual Foundation has investedmillions of dollars, particularly in the Amani neighborhood (53206) to fund home repairs and other initiatives to help stabilize neighborhoods,” said Jim Gaillard, Vice President of Ezekiel HOPE and Master Electrician.
“We purposely chose The Trade Hotel as the venue for our inaugural event because it pays homage to the tradesmen who helped build Milwaukee. With the number of people in the skilled trades dwindling due to retirement and aging out of the workforce, we want people to consider the skilled trades as a viable career option that pays family-sustainingwages,” said Gaillard.
