Hello,my name is Joshua Jackson and Black History Month is almost over. This week at school we have had to do research on African Americans but for the most part we never got to work on it in class. At church this Sunday they did a play for Black History Month and I realized how much black people have changed lives. In the play they would talk about objects and talk about the fact that black people have created so many useful creations. I believe the reason why these people aren’t known very well is because lots of the time white people have taken credit for our ideas and take it as their own. An example of this is wherever Chrisopher Columbus said that he had discovered and America and the Native Americans really were the ones who actually discovered America. This week I learned about so many famous black inventors. I learned that the traffic light was built by a black person who was Garret Morgan.Lewis Howard helped improve the light bulb and made air conditioning.Elijah McCoy helped with medicine but is best known for inventing lubrication devices used to make travel more efficient. Madam C.J. Walker was the first African American woman to be a millionaire. Frederick McKinley Jones invented the refrigerator and later was patented by American inventor Albert T .Marshall. Marie Van Brittan Brown was an African American nurse and inventor who created the first home security system. Rosa Parks was an American civil rights activist best known for the refusal of giving up her seat which is known today as the Montgomery bus boycott. I’ve learned so much about these people and I see how much black people have made so many contributions to America. I would say that most black people come up with all these famous ideas and other people make our inventions more advanced and we never get credit for our accomplishments.Well, whoever reads this I hope you have learned more about black culture.
