Grace Weber’s Music Lab welcomes Milwaukee native Frank Gatson, Jr. as featured guest for season finale and open house on May 24
Creative director for Beyonce’, Rihanna. Jennifer Lopez, and Brandy to provide mentorship to Milwaukee area high school students.
Grace Weber’s Music Lab, a free music education program for high school students from Radio Milwaukee (WYMS-88.9FM), welcomes creative director and choreographer Frank Gatson Jr. as its featured guest for the Lab’s season finale and open house on May 24, the station announced recently.
Gatson is a Milwaukee native and the creative director for Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, Brandy and Beyoncé, a position he’s held since her tenure with Destiny’s Child.
In addition to creative direction, Gatson has choreographed videos, routines and live performances for TLC, En Vogue, Kelly Rowland and more.
“We are so excited to welcome Frank Gatson Jr. as our featured guest for May’s season finale,” said Radio Milwaukee’s Music Educator Coordinator Britney Freeman-Farr. “After Frank attended our lab in March, we were anxious to get him back as a featured guest to share the knowledge and experience he’s accrued from his decades long career with our students.”
May’s Music Lab will take place on Wednesday, May 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Radio Milwaukee’s Walker’s Point Studios (220 E. Pittsburgh Ave).
Music Labs are typically limited to youth ages 13 to 18 attending, but the season finale and open house are open to all.
High school students interested in performing at the Lab’s open mic may sign up at gwmusiclab.com. Students in attendance will also be entered to win a teen prize giveaway.
“The Music Lab brings me so much joy because I get to witness young people performing their art with total freedom,” said program founder Grace Weber.
“My favorite thing, though, is watching the support these high schoolers get from their peers.”
“The Lab is about fostering the next community of artists in Milwaukee, and all we have to do as the founders is create a safe space, step back, and watch them step into their own power.”
Grace Weber’s Music Lab is hosted monthly at Radio Milwaukee from September through May.
At The Music Lab, students have the opportunity to learn about the music and entertainment industries through featured guests.
They are also given the opportunity to collaborate, perform, and build relationships with their peers, often collaborating with students they may not have otherwise met.
