What’s harder than getting motivated to complete a particular task, assignment, or goal? Staying motivated. Yep! It’s way easier to get motivated than it is to stay motivated. It’s like a temporary boost of energy gets you going but what is the thing that’s going to keep you focused and ready?
Believe it or not, consistency is all that matters when accomplishing a goal. The biggest battle most times is finding those things that are going to keep your mind where it needs to be. When you’re focused on the goal the task will get completed.
Here’s a few strategies I’ve found that work for me.
1.Set SMART goals.
SMART goals are designed to paint a clear picture of the goal at hand. Don’t just create a goal that sounds good. Make sure your goal is Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time-based. Remember, there’s a difference between having a goal of “helping people” and “feeding 10 families this month”. “Helping people” sounds good but it’s generic and open for interpretation. Whereas “feeding 10 families this month” tells me what I’m going to do, who’s involved, and when I’m going to do it by. That way the goal isn’t just a hope and a wish. It’s truly something you can see yourself accomplishing.
2.Choose goals that interest you.
Make sure your goal excites you. Let it be something you love to do or care about if possible. If it’s something you like, it will be easier to complete and/or stay motivated.
3.Hang your goal up.
Place your goal in places that you see or go daily. Put it up in a mirror or your wall or a door that you use often. Make sure you can see your goals often. This will push you to work on them.
4.Break up your goal.
Make your big goal small objectives. Find a way to focus on the right now and what is achievable one day or week at a time. You don’t want to put too much pressure on yourself because you might become extremely disappointed when things don’t work out as expected. Smaller goals help you to stay on track and motivated one step at a time.
5.Don’t do it alone.
Never try to accomplish all your goals alone. Trying to finish all the work by yourself becomes exhausting. It’s hard to stay motivated alone because your mind doesn’t always have positive, encouraging thoughts. Sometimes to accomplishing a certain task, you need a team. A team of motivated individuals that push each other is powerful. Having accountability partners is a blessing as well as a mentor. These people can help you set an atmosphere that’s conducive for your success.
