Janette Braverman’s ‘ha-ha’ moment for a career aspiration came when she fell in love with technology after writing her first program on an Apple computer in high school. Over the years, she has managed to merge her technological savvy with her leadership acumen to create a successful business that has attracted corporations, small businesses and the faith-based community to retain her services to help them grow and transform.
As Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and founder of Leaders Leaving Legacies, Braverman who has enjoyed careers in Fortune 500 companies, the nonprofit arena, and academia, has successfully melded her executive leadership skills into a platform that enables her to give back to others who want to grow strategically, change, and stay relevant. Her mission is to provide business and leadership development services that empower organizations to transform in every aspect that will increase their bottom line.
“I love empowering leaders, so when God dropped Leaders Leaving Legacies into my spirit back in 2011, that was my goal. I’ve been given so many opportunities in the corporate world and wanted to share my experiences and skills with others,” said Braverman.
Initially Braverman and her husband, Mitchell, led the leadership and ministry training program at Christian Faith Fellowship Church. Developing this leadership program inspired her to launch Leaders Leaving Legacies, LLC.
Since Braverman frequently works remotely with global clients, she didn’t miss a beat during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“During the pandemic, my business actually grew, especially with serving small businesses. Some clients were seeking to pivot to online services because of COVID-19 mandates, so I was able to help them navigate technological options to keep them viable and solvent,” said Braverman.
Braverman has expanded her business to include “Leaders Lead UpTM,” which is an online social community and learning platform. It was designed to connect women of color with some of the most successful C-Suite executives, business leaders and entrepreneurs around the world. Leaders Lead UpTM works with organizations to customize programs that retain and engage diverse talent and strengthen corporate culture. Although it is directed at helping women of color navigate the workplace and their careers, Braverman’s leadership development platform also provides training and valuable insight for employers to increase their sponsorship and empathy for women, underrepresented groups, and all people of color.
Braverman believes that Milwaukee is one of the most promising cities for entrepreneurs and, judging by her business, she’s on point.
“Milwaukee’s commitment to meet the needs of the community is second to none. It’s true that we deal with a lot of challenges, but there are so many nonprofit organizations helping to address those needs. And, if there is no organization to deal with a problem, people are willing to create one. That’s a positive sign for our community. All we can do is our best. Some things are beyond our control, but I feel that we are moving in the right direction.
“I am a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) Sorority, Inc., and we recently held our regional convention here. The support the city poured into our event was amazing. They pulled out the ‘pink and green’ carpet. Milwaukee really comes together when it is necessary,” said Braverman.
And, as the Milwaukee Community Journal newspaper showcases some of the ‘diamonds’ in our community, Braverman’s vision, leadership, and commitment to give back is a diamond shining brightly, as she leaves a legacy of leadership.
