(MADISON) – After extensive collaboration between community leaders, elected officials, and the Simpson-Robinson family, Wisconsin State Senator Lena Taylor (D-Milwaukee) is thrilled to announce the sign installation, unveiling, and dedication of the Jeannetta Simpson-Robinson Memorial Highway.
Ms. Simpson-Robinson passed away on October 9, 2008. She was a well-known activist for non- violence. Along with her mother, Claretta “Mother Freedom” Robinson, she founded Career Youth Development (CYD). CYD provided, educational and vocational training, as well as AODA prevention and gang intervention services, to at-risk youth. Simpson-Robinson, after the tragic death of both her daughter, Cheryl and granddaughter, “Little Jeannetta” created the Survivors of Homicide Grief and Support Group. Creating the Victory Over Violence Initiative, Jeannetta was a source of light and a life-line for so many in the Milwaukee Community. Over the course of her life, Jeannetta Simpson-Robinson cemented her legacy as a true leader and role model.
