Last week, one of the most devastating incidents happened. According to the news, loved ones say Ronald “Hollywood” Butler was killed trying to warn a reckless driver that kids were in his car.
Milwaukee Police said Butler was killed in a road-rage shooting just before 5:30 at 87th and Mill Road. He was with four of his kids heading to a nephew’s birthday party.
“They were driving recklessly, my brother was like, ‘Y’all need to slow down, I got my kids in here,’ and they shot my brother in the head for saying he got his kids in the car,” said Butler’s sister, Romonia Foster. “Who does that?”
As crazy as we know our city to be when it comes to driving, this story is absolutely heartbreaking. When I heard the story for the first time my entire spirit was uneasy and I don’t even know the guy, personally.
It’s so sad to know we are in a place where people truly don’t care about the life of others, let alone their own life. It’s sad to know that someone could be so heartless in front of those kids. He had kids in the car and regardless the age, these kids will be traumatized for life. They will never forget seeing their father shot because he simply asked some one to slow down on the road, on their behalf.
“POW.” is all I can imagine the kids hearing over and over after it was all said and done. Truly, devastating is an absolute understatement.
The suspect has not been found. Yet, someone’s father/brother/uncle/son was murdered without reason. This is NOT OKAY. This is unbelievable and unacceptable.
What are we to do? How do we make the road safer? How do we stop this kind of behavior? How do we ensure safety while driving? How do we deal with road rage?
My condolences to the family. My condolences to the kids. My condolences to the city.
WE HAVE TO DO BETTER!
