Hello,my name is Joshua Jackson and to me one of the most important holidays is Martin Luther King day because it truly was an important day. It’s really nice to get a day off and to sleep in on days like these but sometimes we forget the true importance of holidays besides a day off. His “I have a dream” speech actually inspires me to keep chasing my dream even if nobody believes in me. It’s crazy to think that only fifty seven years have passed since there was segregation in the United States. It’s crazy because I have asked my Nana and Papa what it was like growing up when there was segregation.
I feel like he stepped for what’s right when nobody else could have the courage. If I grew up in that time I would have been too scared to talk in front of two hundred and fifty thousand people about segregation. One of his famous lines from his “I have a dream” speech was that he hoped that children would be judged based off their character and no the color of their skin however this world still treats us this way.
Also last week in school we watched some videos and talked about Martin Luther King Junior and in Study Skills class we got to make a poster on Martin Luther King which was pretty cool and some of the people in our class made some very creative posters of him. I learned that he had died at thirty nine in which I guessed that he probably died around that age.
Dying at age thirty nine isn’t a very old age to die and I feel like he didn’t get to fulfill his life and passion. I feel like if he was still alive at the time I believe he would try hard for black people to get paid fairly in jobs and businesses. I can’t say much about Martin Luther King that I don’t know because I read a whole Biography about him before. Well, today my words of inspiration are to live out your dream and to not give up on that dream.
