Early Sunday morning, November 27th, Milwaukee advocate, life coach, counselor, comedian, Mother and so much more, lost her life in a fatal car accident. She was ending her night of fun and didn’t make it home.
She leaves behind her beautiful kids, her mother, and a host of community connections. Outside of the work she put in the city, many people from Milwaukee knew her for her vibrant spirit and funny sense of humor. Shannon recently expanded her dreams, taking things to the next level.
“I am the owner of Peace of Heart, LLC, which birthed The Academy of Youth Leadership. I saw a huge problem in Milwaukee in regards to our youth. Not only did I see it, I decided to do something about it. I choose to stand and serve! I choose to no longer put the bandage over the issues with our youth and I solve the problems in Milwaukee forever.” she said on her website.
She had a passion for the youth and seeing them turn their lives around. “I’ll help you get your stuff together. That’s what I do. I talk to the Kia Boyz and Kia Girlz toe to toe. You know, I help them get jobs and things like that. So yaw can thank me later,” she said at an open mic set at the SpeakLife Studio.
Some of the services she offered at the Academy of Youth Leadership:
- We offer complete trauma-informed care workshops with youth and at-risk youth.
- We encourage youth to obtain employment of interest and also help make sure they stay long term.
- We coach youth by providing one-on-one support.
- We educate youth on the juvenile justice system and how to grow away from it.
- We teach youth how to set individual goals and work on achieving them.
Some of her biggest achievements included, but not limited to:
- Raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where finding “the right path” was challenging
- Holding a bachelors degree of Social Welfare in Criminal Justice from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
- Over 10 years of Child Welfare experience (Wraparound Care Coordinator and Child Protective Investigator) in Wisconsin
- Certified Child Protective Investigator and Youth Mentor in Kissimmee, Florida.
- Career Consultant Certification
- Motivational Interviewing Certification
- Trauma-informed Care Certification
- Certified Life Coach
- Passionate about helping others succeed in their daily lives and I know first hand, that good help can help one become great.
She made it known, no matter what she did that she was about making Milwaukee a better place. As a person, she was very sweet, loving, and supportive. It is clear that she didn’t leave this world empty handed. We, as the community, are going to miss her loving heart. If we look back at videos, photos, her podcast, “A Heart Felt Story, and listen to the stories from the people she loved on, we will find her breath, breathing life into this city.
My condolences to the family and all those who are grieving at this time. We lost another real one.
