Throughout the month of January, the Milwaukee Art Museum is encouraging families to turn the frosty elements of winter into works of art. Kohl’s Art Studio at Home activities found at mam.org/art-studio will show viewers how to make ice sculptures in their freezers and sculpt snow outside or indoors with an at home snow recipe. Participants will be encouraged to submit photos of their snow and ice sculptures to [email protected], which will then be shared on the Museum’s website and social media platforms.
The Museum is also teaming up with the Urban Ecology Center (UEC) to create snow art. Museum educators will provide sculpting tools and how-to ideas to all three UEC branch locations. The kits will be incorporated into their Equipment Lending Program and available to the public free of charge all winter. Equipment lending hours and availability can be found online. On February 6, families will have the opportunity to build snow sculptures with Milwaukee Art Museum sculpting kits at the UEC’s annual Winterfest at Washington Park.
The Urban Ecology Center’s facilities and programs have been recognized nationally and internationally for their innovative approach to sustainability, neighborhood-based urban environmental education, and community science.
While the Kohl’s Art Studio at the Museum is currently closed, kids and families can access the January activities, and an array of additional hands-on art-making activities, at mam.org/art-studio. The Kohl’s Art Studio is supported by Kohl’s.
