Last year, a Kenosha man was said to be breaking up a domestic violence event when officers on duty arrived and things went left. After speaking to the police, citizen Jacob Blake was walking away from the officers when they decided to follow behind him, shooting him multiple times in his back. After shooting Jacob while his children were inside the car, doctors told Blake’s family they he may never get to walk again.
The city was furious. Many protested, some destroyed buildings and businesses. Thousands of people got involved in making a statement of just how un-right this was.
As of last week, several news outlets released the information that the officers involved in this shooting will not be held accountable or charged in the case of Jacob Blake. This verdict is extremely insensitive and sickening. To know that this 29 year old black man was trying to help a domestic situation, only to find himself never to walk again due to the violence of a cop that had no reason to feel threatened as a man walks away from him.
How is it that they feel no one deserves any consequences? Why does his life not matter? How could they do such a thing without remorse? The Kenosha police, the judge, and the court system clearly has no interest in integrity. They would rather not take responsibility for their actions and that’s completely disgusting.
Do you agree with this verdict? What do you think the officers should have been charged with?
