Today is Valentine’s Day and I cannot think of any other way to celebrate than with chocolate. Although loving someone is celebrated year around, on this day you get to spoil that special someone for a whole 24 hours. There is going to be an exchange of flowers, chocolates, teddy bears, diamonds, and everything in between, but what about Love?
As I write this story a beautiful song comes to mind, it is called “Lovin’ You” by Minnie Riperton. I have listened to this song many times and never knew that at the end of the unedited version of the song she says her daughter’s name Maya repeatedly at the end of the song and I could feel the love she had for her daughter.
While listening to this song I thought about the several types of love we can show others and how we express ourselves to them. The love of a daughter is different from the love of a spouse. So, I am going to share with you 3 types of love.
The first is Philia love, which means warm affection or friendship, this is the type of love you have with friends, a brotherly love. This type of love makes you stay up late at night on the phone talking to your best friend about how she has just met her soulmate at the gas station, and you are going to be her maid of honor at her wedding, lol.
Then there’s Eros love, a passionate love. This type of love is expressed when you love someone. Have you ever dated someone and felt like you could just sit and listen to them talk about nothing for hours or when they say something that does not make sense, but you laugh hysterically for no reason at all, lol, yes sis you are in love.
Agape love is my favorite, it is unconditional love and the highest form of love. Agape love is “I love you just because” not because I want to borrow your car or because you have something I want. It is a compassionate love that wants you to be happy. Kinda like, “I knew you were single on Valentine’s Day today, so I brought you some chocolates or I know you are a single mom, so I wanted to help you with the kids this weekend and treat you all to dinner.
Love comes in many forms, and we all need it, so remember that showing love to others is contagious, it spreads so sow a seed of love today and in no time, it will come back to you!
Love,
