It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. The snow is coming. Christmas trees are going up. The store shelves have Christmas items front and center.
As fun as this sounds, sometimes it’s not so fun. Sometimes families are struggling, fighting depression, sad because they know this will be a Christmas without. They don’t have much money. So, a lot of kids won’t be getting anything.
Some families don’t have the means to give their children a Christmas. Okay, so maybe that’s not your problem, but hear me out.
What if this Christmas, instead of teaching your kids how to receive, teach your kids how to give. Christmas isn’t just about the gifts. It’s about the love behind the gifts.
What if you came up with a plan to give and made it your business to do so. What if you and your family go to the store, pick out a few toys and be on the lookout for families in need. These toys don’t have to be extravagant. They don’t have to be extremely big. They just have to come from the right place.
It seems like we get so caught up in receiving sometimes that we forget that it’s a blessing to give. It’s an honor to be able to get what you want for Christmas.
But in all honesty, being a blessing is the blessing. It feels amazing to genuinely help the homeless or the less fortunate. It’s humbling because that could be anybody’s family. It could be you. And if it was you, how would you like to be treated. Would you hope someone with a little extra would take the time out to help you? Of course you would, not that you’d be expecting it. But it would feel amazing.
This Christmas season, think outside the box, show the kids something new. Make it real and spread love.
