That is the key word that comes to mind when I think of the Black Owned clothing store that is this week’s fashion spotlight. If you live in the city of Milwaukee and have not gotten the chance to check out Mchete’s African Treasures, please make it a necessity that you do in the near future. Not only is does this amazing store specialize in the best in handmade authentic African dresses, hand crafted art and garb, the story of the founder is truly inspirational.
When Monica Ashery came up with the idea for African Treasures, she’d been out of the workforce for many years due to illness. Financial struggles in between began to mound. The opportunity to rejoin the workforce seemed dire. However, she soon came up with the idea of creating a place that not only promotes our demographic but gives back to it as well. As she explained on her official site, “We buy authentic handmade products from street small traders, beaders and other local artisans that look to improve the livelihoods of them and their families.”
Thus, Mchete’s African Treasures was born. So, to anyone looking to rack up in beautiful, authentic African art and clothing, see to it to make this establishment number one on your list of must visits this Fall.
You can find Mchete’s African Treasures directly at 8340 West Appleton Avenue as well as the official site www.mcheteafricantreasures.com .
