The MPS Foundation will recognize more than 25 extraordinary students by awarding them approximately $115,000 in scholarships during the district’s ‘Celebration of Scholars’ that will be held in the Grand Ballroom (A) on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Wednesday, May 8, starting at 5:30 p.m.
Awardees continue to mirror Milwaukee’s unique diversity, representing high schools from the North Side to the South Side.
The majority are first-generation students, including some from refugee and immigrant families.
Scholarships will support dreams in an array of fields, including Law, Engineering, Arts, Pre-Med, Business, Nursing, and many more.
Each year, hundreds of prospective seniors apply online for the prestigious scholarships after the MPS Foundation works with community partners, MPS high school guidance staff, principals, College and Career Centers, and College Possible to recruit.
This year’s winners were determined after a careful review of their essays, background, academic journey, and college aspirations.
While 15 types of scholarships are available, students can earn only one MPS Foundation award.
The highest-ranking student for multiple scholarships receives the most valuable one, with other recipients following the numerical ranking.
Families, friends, donors, and community members will gather at the University-Milwaukee Grand Ballroom to honor these extraordinary scholars with a formal presentation highlighting the achievements of the MPS Class of 2024 MPS Foundation Scholarships awardees.
Held before official high school graduation, this evening serves as a special time to reflect and celebrate before heading off to college with delicious refreshments and music from DJ Bizzon.
