At around 3:40 a.m. on June 10, a passerby found Fuller hanging from the tree across the street from City Hall, CBS reports in Los Angeles.
California’s attorney general is expected to conduct an independent investigation into the death of Robert Fuller, a 24-year-old black man found hanging from a tree in Palmdale, about 60 miles north of Los Angelos.
Though the city of Palmdale said it appeared Fuller died of an apparent suicide, activists claim officials rushed to judgment, arguing the man could have been a victim of a lynching. Fuller was the second black man to be found hanging from a tree within two weeks in the state.
Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger on Saturday said she formally requested that California Attorney General Xavier Becerra conduct an independent investigation into the death of Fuller, who was found last week with a rope around his neck hanging from a tree near Palmdale City Hall.
According to FoxNews, late last month, the body of Malcolm Harsch, who was 38, was also found hanging from a tree in Victorville, near a homeless campsite.
Authorities in both locations initially suspected the men had committed suicide but are now reserving final decisions in response to community uproar and pending further investigation.
Now this style of killing was very popular decades ago when it was clear that blacks were hated solely because of the color of their skin. Ironically history has repeated itself in many ways this year. Without a shadow of a doubt I don’t believe this was an attempted suicide. What are your thoughts?
