Motivated Mondays: Affirming Yourself

May 15, 2023 By MKE Community Journal Leave a Comment

You know, sometimes our worst enemy is ourself. Sometimes it’s us, that’s the problem. Especially when it comes to speaking kind to ourselves. It’s like as humans, we’re so hard on ourselves. We point everything out that’s wrong. We hate to give ourselves credit. We try to push ourselves to perfection.

But what if I told your striving for greatness all the wrong way. The problem is we focus so much on what’s going wrong that we forget to be kind to ourselves. We talk to ourselves like crap and expect the best. —-No, not gonna happen.

You can’t constantly attack your mind with negativity and expect positive outcomes. You have to learn to keep your mind in good shape. So this week let’s start off with some amazing affirmations that should heighten your mood for the day.

  • There’s great things lined up for me.
  • This will be an amazing year for me.
  • This year is going to be a great and wonderful year for me.
  • I’m willing to follow my purpose.
  • This year, my dreams are coming true.
  • I have found the love of my life in this new year.
  • I’m going to follow through.
  • I’m going to treat me well.
  • Success is inside of me.
  • I’m excelling in every area of my life.
  • I am consistent in all that I do.
  • I start the new year, and continue every day, with sending and receiving peace and love.
  • I do what I love.
  • I accept peace into my life.
  • I love from a genuine place.
  • The love I have for people shows in my actions.
  • I am ready for a fresh new start.
  • I am starting the new year with positivity.
  • I am optimistic for what’s to come.
  • Success comes easily to me.
  • This new year is a year of transformation for me.
  • I’m a learner.
  • I’m a survivor.
  • I take risks.
  • I’m a winner.
  • Nothing can stop me.
  • I’m a new person.
  • I’m the best me I can be.
  • I’m growing.

If you’re a person that usually is hard yourself, you should try to read these twice a day to reprogram your mind. Keep these handy. Keep these close. Your mindful transformation is on the way.

Happy Kwanzaa

December 26, 2022 By MKE Community Journal Leave a Comment

The holiday season is ending, and we have celebrated, feasted on delicacies, and shared lots of love and laughter. Our last holiday has started today, which is Kwanzaa. It was created by activist Maulana Karenga and is based on African Harvest Festival traditions from various parts of West and South Africa.

Kwanzaa is celebrated from December 26th – January 1st and its first celebration was in 1966 and was created after the Watts riots as an African American holiday. Kwanzaa was designed for us to celebrate our history and culture. There are seven days Kwanzaa, and each day has its own principle which are:

Day 1 Unity: this principle is for us to strive for unity in our family and community. This principle is needed in the time we live in today and we must unify on so many levels, and I am sure we would see change in our lives and neighborhoods.

Day 2 self – determination: to define and name ourselves, create and speak up. This simply means being confident in who you are, we are unique, strong, and educated and we can be bold and confront and build things without fear when we know who we are.

Day 3 collective work and responsibility is to build our community and help our brothers and sisters. I see so much change for us with small businesses and being creative. We mustcontinue to support and promote change in our community.

Day 4 cooperative economics: to build and maintain our own stores and other businesses and profit from them. There are many black organizations that focus on business development and growth, like the Wisconsin Black Chamber of Commerce who has helped the black community stay visible, strong, and successful.

Day 5 purpose: our collective goal is to build up and develop our communities. This principle makes me think of home ownership and redevelopment of our neighborhoods. We need to get the proper help and finances to build and restore, so we can provide safe living conditions for families.

Day 6 creativity: to do as much as possible to leave our community more beautiful and beneficial than it was when we inherited it. We need to make a difference not just in our homes, but in the community.

Day 7 Faith: to believe with all our hearts in our people, our parents, our teachers, our leaders, and the righteousness and victory of our struggle. This needs no explanation and on the last day of Kwanzaa I would say this is the best and most powerful principle.

Join me in celebrating Kwanzaa as this year ends!

Motivated Mondays: Get to Know You

June 27, 2022 By MKE Community Journal Leave a Comment

The gift of life is something so special. One thing about life is it can be taken at any given moment, that makes it important to cherish. It’s important to live life to the fullest. It’s important to grow mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. It’s important to understand who you are and cater to yourself.

I get it. Sometimes this is hard when you’re a giver or a parent that has to care for your kids or a mate that has to cater to your significant other. You begin to feel like you don’t have time to focus on or get to know you. But in all honesty, it’s so necessary.

You can’t be amazing to others if you’re not first amazing to yourself. You need to know about you. You need to know the things that make you happy versus what makes you tick. You should know what you like and don’t like. You have to be honest with yourself about how you feel. Know your truth.

This can be a tough task at times but, again, it is necessary. There’s many ways you can get to know you but I highly advise to start with a pen and paper. Drill yourself with questions to find out new things, current behaviors and actions.

Need some help? Ask yourself these questions for starters:

  • What are my strengths and weaknesses?
  • Pros and Cons about me
  • What’s a great habit that I currently possess?
  • What needs work in my life?
  • What is my purpose in life?
  • What is my personality type?
  • Who am I? One of the hardest questions to answers is who you are.
  • What are my values?
  • What matters the most to me?
  • What does it mean to have a “good life?” .
  • Where does self-worth come from?
  • Am I happy with my life?
  • What do I need right now, more than anything else?
  • Did I make time for myself this week?
  • Am I making time for my social life?
  • What scares me the most right now?
  • What is something I find inspiring?
  • Am I on track to reach my goals?
  • What do I need to work on?
  • How do I make others feel that are around me?

Asking yourself these questions will help you discover the real you. Knowing who you are gives you a head start to your day. You have to know what kind of person you are and also know who it is you want to be. Life is all about love and evolving. However, you must start with you. You must know where you are in order to make you better.

So sit down with yourself this week and write. Find out new things about you and embrace them. Then love on you for who you are and work towards your best self.

We’re created to love and help others but we must know and love ourselves, first.
