Arts Organization plans outdoor Scavenger Hunt and Socially Distant Costume Contest
Sculpture Milwaukee will keep the Halloween spirit alive this year by leveraging their world-class public art exhibition to host a socially distant scavenger hunt and social-media driven costume contest. An optional in-person component will take place October 31st from 11am to 3pm, where masked and distanced volunteers will be on-site to distribute materials and assist with the scavenger hunt. Participants have until midnight on Halloween to enter the costume contest on Instagram using #SculptOween. All materials and a full list of details and rules will be made available for download on Sculpture Milwaukee’s website.
The in-person festivities will take place outdoors beginning at the “pocket-park” in the 400 block of E. Wisconsin Avenue, just west of the Historic Pfister hotel. Participants can pick-up their official scavenger hunts and free activity books (for the first 100 participants). These free activity books are great for kids under twelve and were created by students at True Skool. In light of health concerns, no candy will be distributed; however, participants are encouraged to visit local restaurants and cafes nearby to support local businesses. The Saint Kate Arts Hotel will be be offering free take-away treats for the first fifty costumed-kid participants.
“Heavens sakes, what a year! After studying the guidelines set by the city of Milwaukee and the CDC, we felt our organization was uniquely suited to host a safe and fun event. We’re outdoors, spread out in the heart of downtown, and open to the public 24/7. With over twenty sculptures, including the whimsical and bright Blob Monster by artist Tony Tasset, there will be something for everyone to enjoy,” said Meg Strobel, Sculpture Milwaukee’s Director of Community Engagement. “We want to provide an environment where kids and adults can get outside, show off their costumes, and celebrate safely.”
