We are in one of the most profitable and exciting seasons. This is the season to feast, shop till you drop and enjoy festivities and families. From the big bright decorations, the fresh baked goods and the abundance of packages, we all adore the holiday season.
I enjoy everything about this time of the year and take part in most of everything it has to offer. I also have experienced extreme pain during this season one year, due to my mother’s passing a week before Christmas in 2009. Even though I will never forget that time, I am now able to enjoy this holiday season again.
I often think about other families and how no matter how we all tend to celebrate the holidays, there is someone somewhere in pain, alone and not as happy as the world is. So, I try to make sure that I remember those individuals during this time and I’m going to share a few ways we can celebrate but be aware of others and realize that everyone isn’t celebrating.
Be happy, but not boastful. When engaging with people be aware of those around you who are without parents, children or have experienced some type of loss, whether it’s from a divorce or custody battle. They might seem ok but could be struggling this time of the year.
Remember the elderly. When you get older most of your family and friends have transitioned, so they might be alone and not have anyone to enjoy the holidays with so share with them, give them gifts, and spend a little time listening and having a conversation about their lives to put a smile on their face.
Go visit those that are ill and take a gift, snack or a card. When you are ill you don’t get a day off and even the care givers are working during the holidays, so be mindful and show some love to those who are not able to share in the festivities this year.
Share with the less fortunate. There are tons of charities that need help all year and especially during the holidays. Kids need coats and toys, parents need food, finances and shelter, so find a local organization you can trust and support them, each one reach one.
Lastly, how many gifts do we really need? The most important gift to give this year is LOVE! Love on your neighbor, your family, friends and anyone who needs a kind word, a warm cup of coffee, or anything that is within your means. The seasons come and go, but they would be nothing if love is not present.
Enjoy the holiday season!
