My childhood and adolescence years were tough. I had a wonderful upbringing, was well taken care of and loved, however, internally I suffered from fears and many other traumas. Sometimes I felt that I was not enough, not pretty enough, and just did not fit in, anywhere.
I remember one day in grade school while visiting the school library, I grabbed a few books and began to read stories about other children that had similar experiences that I was dealing with and that changed me, and I saw that I was not alone. While reading that day, it gave me the ability to escape my current situation and it also gave me consolation and freedom.
Reading can be life changing and it can take you places you have never seen and teach you a new skill. I also love to write and over the years have learned that most writers develop their writing skills by reading, which aids in creating wonderful stories.
Reading is one of the most unpopular things to do now, however I encourage you to make it a priority and take some time to sit and read a few good books, whether it is cookbooks, books on traveling, educational books, or self-help books, just start reading.
Here is a list of a few good books that I have read:
- Charlie and The Chocolate Factory by Ronald Dahl
- Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White
- Black Boy by Richard Wright
- Mama by Terry Mcmillan
- I Tina by Tina Turner
- Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare
- Great Expectations by Charles Dickens and
- The Outsiders by S.E Hinton
My list of books is in the Thousands I am sure and some of them have taught me how to deal with extreme situations and how to prepare many dishes that I still make today, while others have taught me how to change a tire, how to fold a fitted sheet (I still forget) lol, and even how to invest money for my future.
So, if you want to develop new skills, or tackle a few household jobs, or just want to read about romance, go to your local library or bookstore and start reading today and more than anything else have fun!
Happy Reading!
