After sending out an email stating how they would take extra precautions to keep things clean and offer additional testing they went back to the drawing board. On Sunday, January 2nd, 2021, MPS sent out an email confirming that they’re switching to virtual learning until further notice due to the influx in positive COVID cases this past week.
While this puts many people at ease that were worried at this time, there’s many parents worried about how to go to work and watch this kids at the same time. This sounds like the year 2020 all over again and you can bet your bottom dollar people are acting and reacting as such.
I’m personally glad they made this position because truth be told, many MPS schools have not been getting the cleaning they promised parents before. As a parent I was fearing for my son’s life, not saying that if he caught COVID the worst would happen, but with this virus nothing’s for sure.
I am so relieved at this time. I’m excited to see MPS choose safety over in-person education. Only reason is because I can’t count the amount of people that I know personally that have been positive for COVID, nor can I count the amount of kids that have tested positive as well. This virus is scary. No one has control over it, not even those with the vaccine. It’s been statistically proven that you can very well catch and spread the virus while being fully vaccinated.
According to Fox6 News, MPS will conduct COVID-19 testing for students beginning (today) Monday, Jan. 3 at 9 a.m. and goes until 7 p.m. at the following locations:
- Hamilton HS: 6215 W. Warnimont Avenue
- Marshall HS: 4141 N. 64th Street
- Obama SCTE: 5075 N. Sherman Boulevard
- Pulaski HS: 2500 W. Oklahoma Avenue
- South Division: 1515 W. Lapham Boulevard
- Wisconsin Conservatory of Lifelong Learning (WCLL): 1017 N. 12th Street
Additionally, staff can be tested Sunday, Jan. 2 at the Central Service building at 52nd and Vliet until 4 p.m. or on Monday at the locations listed above.
Let’s do what we can and not stress over what’s not in our control. Let’s do our best to be safe. Let’s social distance and try to stay home as much as possible!
