The United Neighborhood Centers of Milwaukee (UNCOM), in partnership with the Social Development Commission (SDC), will distribute 200 free Thanksgiving meals on Wednesday, November 23 from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm (or until all the meals are given away) in the SDC parking lot located on 17th & North in Milwaukee. Free gun locks and children’s books will be available, too.
The Thanksgiving meals, gun locks and children’s books have been made available to UNCOM for distribution through Northcott Neighborhood House (through Bader Philanthropies), the City of Milwaukee’s Office of Violence Prevention and Autism Society of Southeastern Wisconsin (though Children’s Wisconsin – Community Services). “It is our mission at UNCOM to make our community stronger and what better way to do that then standing beside our partners to make this holiday season a little brighter for Milwaukeeans in our neighborhood,” says Renée Logee, Executive Director, UNCOM.
“SDC is honored to be part of this Thanksgiving Giveaway, not just because of the season, but also for the power and the reason that this event presents. It is an opportunity to be grateful for what we have, or receive, and what we are able to give. We recognize the power of partnerships and collaboration with other community groups. All with one aim of reaching every resident in need of our support. We also know that if we join hands with others, we will be more efficient in delivering impactful programs and services. As we go into the holiday season, we would like to encourage greater collaboration,” says Dr. George Hinton, CEO, SDC.
