Attached, please find this week’s epidemiology reports from Darren Rausch, MS, CPH, Health Officer/Director with the Greenfield Health Department.
For the most recent data period of October 13 – October 19, 2021, data continues to support a slight decrease for all 7-day average case, but it appears that the decrease continues to be more significant in the City of Milwaukee than the suburban communities as a whole.
Of additional note, we have now exceeded 50% vaccination for first doses for all age groups currently eligible to receive vaccination (since 12-15 year olds are now above 50%). However, it’s noted that there are still considerable differences in vaccination levels when assessing the race/ethnicity data.
Key data notes for today related to cases, hospitalizations, deaths, testing, and vaccination:
- Cases
- Among all county residents (adults + children) there were 1,062 cases this week compared to 1,220 last week. Cases overall remain high after the increase seen last week.
- Among kids only (18 and younger) there were 357 cases this week and 419 last week.
- The proportion of cases among kids is slightly lower (33.6% this week compared to 34.3% last week).
- Hospitalizations
- 285 hospitalizations among adults; 299 last week (note that hospitalization data often lags due to reporting challenges)
- 25 hospitalizations among kids; last week counted 33 hospitalizations among kids.
- Deaths
- 12 deaths are reported among adults for this week, but I always note that death data lags due to delays in processing and reconciling death certificates).
- Deaths have been increasing since early August.
- Testing
- Percent positivity for this week was 8.1%, compared to 7.9% last week.
- Pending data for the most recent week includes approximately 30,000 tests countywide. Testing has been decreasing overall for the past three weeks; this could be related to less people needing tests, but we also are aware of some labs that are having supply issues making testing availability more limited.
- Vaccination
- Overall vaccination rates have increased over the prior week, 52.8% versus 52.3% (this number includes the entire county population, including kids under 12 who are not eligible for vaccination yet).
- Similar, increases are noted for those 12+ years, 63.6% completed countywide, and 16+ year, 64.4% countywide. Any increase in completed vaccination rates each week is a positive sign.
