If you haven’t made it out to one I wanted to paint a picture for you. A river of people gracefully moving through the city in unison, with signs reading everything from “Hispanics for black lives” to “black lives matter.” What surprises me the most. Is the number of Caucasians who come out in support in each march, carrying signs and shouting chants as well. The group is not just not limited Blacks or Whites, there are also Asian Americans, Hispanics among others. Walking along side each group, hearing their passion as they yell and cheer makes you forget about the weather conditions, or even the lack of space within the march it’s self. Along the walk there are also individuals offering snacks, and water as we make our way through the city. Only stopping to hear activist like Vaun Mayes speak about unity and peace, while directing traffic for passing traffic that are not participating.
I grew up inspired by the protests of those came before me. The courage it took to march against injustice, as they did in the 1960s against less favorable odds. Still till this day it is one of the biggest movements for civil rights.
The current movement named by many The Blacks lives Matter Movement, is setting up to be of the largest and most influential ones yet. As athletes and stars continue to get involved, I pray change continues to come and pressure is applied for new laws. We will continue to march pray our safety, as I pray for yours.
