It has been a tough several weeks in the Milwaukee area for the Law enforcement community with three being shot within that time span. Thankfully all three survived their injuries and are on the mend. I wrote earlier about the MPD detective that was injured when he was off duty and stepped in to stop the attack on a lady inside a restaurant. That officer was shot in the struggle with the suspect and citizens came to his aid while he waited for medical attention to arrive. Although wounded the officer called out the license plate number of the fleeing vehicle with the suspect inside.
A deputy sheriff conducted a traffic stop and two suspects ran from the vehicle as he called for back up at the stop. Eventually a number of officers responded to the scene to search for the suspects. While searching the area a suspect came out of a large trash can and shot a deputy several times. That suspect ran but was cornered and eventually shot and killed himself.
Lastly an officer was dispatched to check on the welfare of a subject inside a vehicle by the Menomonee Valley area. The officer checked the vehicle and found one subject inside. That subject ran from the vehicle with a gun and exchanged gun fire with the officer. Both the officer and the suspect were hit by gunfire. The suspect stole the officer’s squad and eventually crashed. He was taken into custody a few blocks from the crash scene. Citizens came to the aid of the injured officer until medical attention arrived. The Chief of Police and the Acting Mayor both thanked the citizens for aiding the officer.
We all, the police, and the citizens of this city, must come together and get a handle on this crime situation within our city. Let us not kid ourselves this will not be easy, but we must do this if we want to live in a safe city. Most people within the city are good, hard working caring individuals. Everyone must do their part to make this the place we want to live, work, and raise our families.
