International Women’s Day
MILWAUKEE, WI – Milwaukee’s International Women’s Day Coalition will host a rally and march on Sunday, March 6, 2022, at noon starting in Dontre Hamilton Park (Red Arrow Park). The rally and march constitute a celebration of International Women’s Day (IWD), which emphasizes solidarity for women’s reproductive rights, working rights, economic freedom, and overall empowerment. This year’s celebration will also focus on honoring women on the frontlines – from the pandemic to the uprising.
Sponsored by over a dozen grassroot and community organizations, union locals, and student organizations, Milwaukee’s International Women’s Day Coalition carries forward the spirit of the 114-year-old holiday to continue building resistance against gender-based oppression. Building this resistance remains an imperative as systematic attacks on reproductive freedom in various states pick up, the Supreme Court appears poised to issue a reversal of Roe v. Wade, and domestic violence levels, which disproportionately impact women, rise with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Milwaukee’s International Women’s Day Coalition unites in favor of the following: reproductive rights, protection of trans women’s rights, improved compensation for domestic laborers, labor rights and collective bargaining, paid parental leave, and the creation of a Civilian Police Accountability Council.
